12 Snapshots of Life

So, last week I was on Amazon.com looking at cameras (again), when the suggestion for a book called Mamarazzi: Every Mom's Guide to Photographing Kids popped up.  Now do you honestly think I could have resisted buying it immediately, especially since the hubby has been referring to me as the mamarazzi for three years?

The book includes photography basics, technical info, and maybe more importantly, a dose of reality.  Every mom should know that you're not going to get great posed shots of your kids smiling naturally every single time you get the camera out, however, I seem to have a hard time remembering that!  Sometimes the monsters just want to play and have fun!  They don't want to be dressed up, forced to hold still and then be expected to smile about it.  Mamarazzi was a good reminder for me to just capture the daily moments and have fun with it.  I think they had lots more fun and I was still able to get photos that I love.

He loves water!  Bath time was perfect for photos, because he'd splash then laugh, splash then laugh!  I didn't have to coax him to smile once!

Playing outside at the neighbor's house, he was so intent on watching all the big boys that he didn't even notice the camera!

Little monster's first haircut - Before

My hubby played barber for the day.

I have to admit I'm going to miss the little curls behind his ears, even if it was the beginning of a serious mullet!

First haircut - After

One word - eyelashes!

Both boys love the dog and could spend hours playing with him.

"Mom, take a picture of my shoe!"
Trying to keep this monster from running from the camera is especially difficult, but he had fun with it
when I told him he didn't have to sit still or even smile.

After a while I think he forgot the camera was there.

I love watching him play!  He has such an imagination and the sound effects crack me up!

Sometimes having two little boys so close in age is more than a handful, but already they're such great buddies.

The First 12

So here's my first batch of 12 new photos.  My hubby is always encouraging me to "leave those poor kids alone" and go take a few nature photos.  Since I'm attempting to try new things with Project 1210 I figured I may as well take his advice.

Wilson Springs  near our house is so nice in the evening.  It was a great chance to practice with backlighting.

Love this light!

The ducks avoided the camera as much as my kids...

I have fond memories of a certain pair of initials carved in a tree.  ;)  Love little reminders like this...

Guffey Bridge over the Snake River

I kind of have a thing for bridges.  Must be the engineer in me...

Flowers in Celebration Park

Couldn't help myself! I had to get at least one of the little monster!

12 Favorites of My 2 Little Monsters

Since my boys are probably the thing I photograph the most I thought I'd share 12 of my favorites from the past year.  I'm sure you'll be seeing much more of these guys!

I bribed him with skittles that day, but this was still one of the only shots that he looked happy!

Those eyes just get me every time!  Never thought I'd get a blue eyed baby with my brown eyes.

On our front porch..."Mom you're weird!"

Funny little guy!

I love this one because I can almost imagine that he can be quiet.  At least for a few minutes...

My favorite portrait spot in my whole house - in front of the family room window.  I love natural light!

He is so not a fan of posed portraits, or anything he has to sit still for...

So Serious!

The typical response to the camera.  "Oh Mom!"

Even in black and white I can't get enough of those eyes.

I'm sure anyone looking into our backyard that day got a good laugh.  Me dancing around and whistling, the hubby practically standing on his head, all for a silly picture. I'll probably be doing it all over again next week and many weeks after that too!

I love these little monsters!
