Gymnastics

Ok, this girl is awesome! Her cartwheels and flips made me wish I was more coordinated!

These two are just too cute together!!

LOVE THESE KATIE! In particular, you got the lighting JUST right (no shadows being cast across their bodies or faces! That's hard to do in natural light!)! I'm so excited to hire you to take mine next spring! :)

Why?

I have always been drawn to art and photography, but haven't consistently done anything to develop my skills since high school. I have had a DSLR since about 2002 and have enjoyed taking photos (mostly in automatic mode) to try to capture the things that I find beautiful, the relationships I cherish and the moments that seem to slip by faster and faster each day. In 2010 I took an online class and began shooting in manual mode. I still get frustrated that I missed a moment because I was fumbling with settings or botched the exposure or focus because I was too wrapped up in the moment itself.

After a lot of thought about how I can learn and improve, it all came back to practice, practice, practice! Doesn't everything? I'd seen others do a "365 project" where they commit to a photo every day for a year. If you spend that much time taking photos it's impossible not to improve, but that much daily effort more than intimidated me. (What if I miss a day!?!)

Project 1210 is my compromise. I'll still have lots of time with my camera, but I won't feel as guilty when taking a photo is yet another daily task that doesn't get checked off one of my many unfinished lists!
