I'm Back!

Wow! The last couple months this poor blog has been so neglected it's embarrassing!

I've been behind in the past, but I have a good excuse this time...

Baby number 3! Due in September!

Now that I'm past the first trimester and starting to feel a bit more like myself I hope to catch up and post a bunch of the photos I've taken over the last few months. Stay tuned!

Why?

I have always been drawn to art and photography, but haven't consistently done anything to develop my skills since high school. I have had a DSLR since about 2002 and have enjoyed taking photos (mostly in automatic mode) to try to capture the things that I find beautiful, the relationships I cherish and the moments that seem to slip by faster and faster each day. In 2010 I took an online class and began shooting in manual mode. I still get frustrated that I missed a moment because I was fumbling with settings or botched the exposure or focus because I was too wrapped up in the moment itself.

After a lot of thought about how I can learn and improve, it all came back to practice, practice, practice! Doesn't everything? I'd seen others do a "365 project" where they commit to a photo every day for a year. If you spend that much time taking photos it's impossible not to improve, but that much daily effort more than intimidated me. (What if I miss a day!?!)

Project 1210 is my compromise. I'll still have lots of time with my camera, but I won't feel as guilty when taking a photo is yet another daily task that doesn't get checked off one of my many unfinished lists!
