Juniper Mountain Camping Trip

We went on a quick camping trip to Juniper Mountain in Owyhee County on Friday.  My hubby got to do a little scouting for his elk tag this fall, the boys played in the dirt, and I had another chance to try some night time photography.  We left later than usual to avoid the heat so I was able to get several sunset photos as we drove down.  It's amazing how much the light changed in such a short period of time!

My 4 year old wanted to take pictures of the moon again so I got everything set up while they roasted marshmallows and then he got to come over and click the remote.  For not being a full moon, it definitely put out plenty of light.  The moon overpowered the Milky Way enough that it was much less prominent than I would have liked, but I was happy since these were my first real attempt at photographing it.  I also tried star trails for the first time!  I only got two decent shots before getting too tired to keep trying.  The exposures were close to 30 minutes each to capture the movement of the stars around the North Star.  The moon was bright enough to light up the trees!
